HONORS 222: Marine Oil Spills and Indigenous Communities: This research paper was for HONORS 222, or Marine Oil Spills, and was on offshore oil and gas exploration and the response from indigenous peoples in the Arctic. This paper is the best example of my interdisciplinary learning experience with Honors: I was able to explore oil spills through my area of interest and look at how oil drilling activities in the Arctic have negatively impacted the livelihoods of indigenous peoples and caused them to demand more attention and protection from the international community. In other words, this was a moment in my undergraduate career when two different disciplines, the sciences and social sciences, converged.
American Institute of Indian Studies (AIIS) and the Critical Language Scholarship: Learning Hindi in Jaipur: This artifact is a paper I wrote in Hindi for my program at the American Institute of Indian Studies (AIIS), located in Jaipur, India. Advanced Hindi students were expected to write a research paper and present it in front of the class and teachers for 30 minutes. My research paper was on English education in India and to what extent the elite in India actually use Hindi on a daily basis. This was the project that challenged my ability in the language the most.
